PURPOSE:To improve the reliability and efficiency of writing on an external storage device by constituting it so that a host unit obtains correctly an address in the external storage device of a record which is being written after a fault has been reset, and the host unit continues halted file access management. CONSTITUTION:Data is written on an external storage device 3 through an external storage control device 2 by a host unit 1, and by a request from the unit 1, the data read out of the device 3 is sent out to the unit 1. When an abnormal state detecting circuit 25 of this control device 2 detects an abnormality of the device 1 in the course of write of the data, a write/read-out controlling circuit 26 transfers immediately an address of a record being in the course of write at present, which is the contents of a write address register 22, to an error address register 23 and stores it. In this way, the device 1 derives the address being in the course of write, by the control device 2 after a fault has been reset, the device 1 continues managenent of halted file access, and the reliability and efficiency of writing to the device 3 are improved.
