COMPOSITE ROLL FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To provide a composite roll for continuous casting which prevents expansion and progression of a thermal crack and improves resistance to fracture by providing a thermally sprayed layer to the boundary part between a roll core material and a build-up part covering said material. CONSTITUTION:The thermally sprayed layer 2 is provided to the entire surface or part of the body part of the roll core material in the case of subjecting the material 1 to build-up welding and forming the composite roll having an intermediate build-up layer 3 and a surface build-up layer 4. The layer 2 is formed preferably by a metallizing spraying method as workability is good and the mechanical adhesion strength to the blank material for the roll by an anchor effect is expected. A higher effect is obtd. with the position from the surface part of the roll body if said layer is provided internally in the position at least about >=10mm. from the surface. The thickness thereof is generally enough with about 5mm.. The resistance to fracture of the composite roll is improved and the workability and productivity are improved by the above-mentioned construction.
