PURPOSE:To detect the relative phase difference between two input signals by providing an FF which holds the state of an input signal with the edge of a reference signal. CONSTITUTION:A wave front differentiating circuit 6 detects the moment when the reference signal (a) changes from ''0'' to ''1'' and outputs a pulse signal (b) as long as one cycle of a clock (c) synchronizing with the clock (c). The logical state of an input signal (d) is held temporarily by the FF5 at the rise of the signal (b). The output signal (f) of the FF5 is held in a register similarly to the output of a counter 3 when the reference signal (a) is in a wave tail state, and the contents of this register 4 are referred to, thereby detecting the relative phase difference between two input signals.
