PURPOSE:To attain the simplification, miniaturization and weight reduction of the mechanism of a printer by using a system in which feeding rollers are separated or joined through a drive controller on the basis of detection information from a sensor to detect the positions of a platen in relation to the feeding path. CONSTITUTION:Feeding rollers 4 and 4' are opened and a medium 1 is put between the rollers 4 and 4' in the first place. In this case, a platen 9 is projected into a feeding path 2 by means of the platen cam 15 turning on the opening information of the feeding rollers to position the medium 1. When the insertion of the medium 1 is detected, the roller 4 is restored to closed state, the medium 1 is held, and the platen 9 is retracted from the feeding path 2 by rotation of the cam 15. When the retraction of the platen 9 is detected by a sensor 17, the feeding roller 4 is turned to send the medium 1 to the printing head 6, the platen 9 is again projected into the feeding path 2 by rotation of the cam 15, and the medium 1 is held between it and the head 6 for printing. |
