<p>In order to provide on-line adjustment of the bending of the edges of strip used in the production of helical-seam pipe, in which the direction and magnitude of a bow in the strip can be recognized and, with this information, the bending operation can be altered in such a manner that the displacement of the edges can be kept within permissible limits, it is proposed that while the strip is being rolled from the coil, the curvature of the strip in the horizontal direction is continuously determined, by mechanical means, from the length of the arc of the inner and outer edges of the strip, and by comparing the nominal and actual values at adjustable intervals, the edge-bending is then altered in such a manner that the edge-zone of the longer edge is bent to a greater degree while that of the shorter edge is bent to a lesser degree.</p> |
