2-(6-Methoxy -2-naphthyl) propyl acetyl salicylate (I) is prepd. by reaction of acetyl salicyloyl chloride (II) with 2-(6-methoxy -2 -naphthyl)-1-propanol (III). The reaction is pref. effected in an inert solvent (ether or haloalkane) in the presence of an acid acceptor (pyridine or triethylamine). The reaction may be effected at 0-60 deg.C, esp. 20-50 deg.C. LD 50, p.o. and i.p. is greater than 4000 mg/kg (mouse), cf. LD 50 of naproxene is 1200 mg/kg p.o. and 1000 mg/kg i.p. (mouse). (I) may be given orally in tablets etc. contg. 200-400 mg (I), as a suppository contg. 400-800 mg (I), or topically as a cream or gel etc. contg. 10-15% (I).
