PURPOSE:To obtain a separator for preventing the occurence of cross colors and shading of profiles even when the vertical correlation of a luminance signal drops by separating the luminance signal from a carrier chrominance signal with the aid of the vertical correlation of signals ahead of one horizontal period. CONSTITUTION:A color video signal (YL+YH+C) is supplied to a terminal 9, while a high-frequency color video signal (YH+C) is filtered by a high-pass filter 10 and supplied to a comb-shaped filter 12. A high-frequency luminance signal YH' and a carrier chrominance signal C' are fetched from a signal Sc and a signal Sa, respectively. Unnecessary luminance signal are mixed on an (n+2)th line without the vertical correlation of the signal Sa(C'), fetched by a subcarrier half- period delay circuit 13 and an adder 14, and supplied to a logic arithmetic circuit 15 together with the signal Sc. Accordingly the proper high-frequency luminance signal whose unnecessary luminance signals are removed can be outputted from the logic arithmetic circuit 15.
