<p>In a method for operating a bale opener for bales of cotton fibres, chemical fibres and the like, a mobile carriage on wheels with a tower moves along back and forth, and a take-off device, for example a high-speed cutting device, above a row of free-standing fibre bales, the take-off device detaches fibre flocks from the surface of the bales and a sensor arranged for travel on passing a bale boundary delivers an electrical signal that is conducted to a control device, for checking the boundaries of the rows of bales. For enabling automatic and reliable determination of the boundaries of the rows of bales or of a group of bales, the boundaries of the bales are determined directly by means of a sensor, the travel of the sensor is determined by means of a measuring device and the electrical signals from the sensor are conducted to the control device or the measuring device and the electrical signals from the measuring device are conducted to the control device.</p> |
