WOUND TYPE LEAD-ACID BATTERY

PURPOSE:To prevent electrode plates from short and increase reliability by wrapping the starting end of winding of a negative plate with a lead or lead alloy plate which has height projected from the negative plate and using this projected part as a current collector. CONSTITUTION:The starting part of winding of a paste type negative plate 1 comprising an expanded grid is wrapped with a lead plate 5 which is higher than the negative plate and projected from the negative plate. The wrapped part is pressed and welded by resistance welding to form a current collector 5a. The both sides of the negative plate are wrapped with a separator comprising glass fibers, and a paste type positive plate comprising an expanded grid is placed thereon. They are spirally wound around the lead plate 5 to make an electrode plate. By this construction, short caused by piercing the separator can be prevented.
