PURPOSE:To decrease electrolyte pouring time and obtain a lead-acid battery having good volume efficiency by inserting a spirally wound plate group into a container having a hole in this bottom, penetrating dilute sulfuric acid electrolyte into the container from the hole, then charging a battery. CONSTITUTION:A plate group 7 is inserted into a container 1' having a hole 3 having a diameter of, for example 5mm. in its bottom, and they are immersed in a formation bath 9 filled with dilute sulfuric acid 8 to penetrate electrolyte into the container. By increasing the dimension of a bath or the number of baths, a large number of batteries can be poured with electrolyte at the same time. During formation, electrolyte decreased by gassing is supplemented from the hole 3. When electrolyte volume held in the separator is previously measured, pouring electrolyte volume can accurately be controlled by only adjusting the specific gravity of sulfuric acid. The electrolyte level in the formation bath is required to adjust to the same height as that of the plate group or to 20mm. lower height than that of the plate group. After formation, the hole 3 is closed. |
