PURPOSE:To provide a thermal printer capable of securely guiding an ink ribbon to a heating resistor array and preventing printing of broken characters or the like from occurring, with a simple construction, wherein a thermal head substrate is provided with notches or projections for guiding the ink ribbon. CONSTITUTION:The thermal printer comprises the heating resistor array 11 at a central part of a ceramic substrate of a thermal head 9 mounted on a carriage 2, and the notches 12, 13 of a ribbon guide part having a width approximately equal to the width of the ink ribbon 4 are provided at both ends of the substrate on opposite sides of the array 11. When the carriage 2 is moved in the direction of an arrow A, the ribbon 4 is fed in the direction of an arrow B, and is positively guided to the array 11 while being guided by the notches 12, 13 on the upstream and downstream sides of the array 11. |
