PURPOSE:To enable sure driving of a tape in correspondence to the mode of operation with simple constitution by changing a rotational force transmitting device according to the tape loading position and unloading position. CONSTITUTION:A turning arm 88 that pivots an idler gear 86 is loosely fitted to an end of the shaft 80 of a substrate 2, and a relay lever 104 having an idler type 102 placed on an end is pivoted to a shaft 106 to allow free rotation. When a reproducing button is depressed from the stop state, a tape is pulled out by a pulling member, and a capstan 72 turns to the right, and the idler gear 86 engages with the idler of a take-up reel turntable 10 and runs the reel turntable 10 at a fixed speed. When the capstan 72 is rotated reversely at a high speed under this condition, the mode becomes a review mode. When a quick traversing and rewinding button is depressed in the stop state, the idler tyre 102 comes into contact through the turning arm 88, and performs high- speed rotation. Thus, sure tape driving can be made according to the mode.
