Appliances for the harvesting of field crops, especially silage fodder, have to be converted at the expense of a considerable amount of time when chaff containing grains and chaff without grains are to be harvested alternately. To simplify this conversion and therefore reduce the conversion times, the crushing rollers (20, 21) are assigned an adjustable guide device (23) which guides the chaff stream conveyed by the chaff drum (10) either through the crushing rollers (20, 21) or directly into the blower (14). <IMAGE>
