PURPOSE:To measure the distance to an object of measurement without adjusting the direction of a distance measuring means by putting an image pickup means closer to the object in a specific direction and measuring the distance on the basis of the increase rate of an image which accompanies the approach. CONSTITUTION:When the object A of measurement at unknown distance L is viewed through a lens F while an image pickup surface I and the lens F are held at constant distance lO, the object A is image-formed on the image pickup surface I as a projection image d1. Then when the lens F and image pickup surface I is put closer to the object A by known distance (l) without changing the direction of the lens F to the object A, the object A is projected as an image d2 larger than d1. The increase rate d2/d1 of the increasing image of the object A is used to take measurements from short distance (l) to distance lX to the object A, and consequently the distance is not measured directly and the direction of the image pickup means need not be aligned completely to the direction of the object of measurement, so that the need for complicate coordinate conversion, etc., is eliminated. |
