An alternating-voltage amplifier having a very short settling time consists of an inverting amplifier, to the input of which a capacitor is connected. This amplifier has a negative feedback branch which is returned from its output to the capacitor and which contains at least one ohmic resistor and a number of semiconductor elements, the semiconductor elements switching through the negative feedback branch in the event of a positive and a negative threshold voltage which is less than the positive and the negative drive limit of the amplifier, and the resistor being selected in such a manner that when the negative feedback branch is switched through, the charging processes of the capacitor have a shorter time constant than in the settled state of the amplifier.
