The method and device allow coupling at the bottom of a liquid mass by the joining of two connectors 14, 10 carried, one by an apparatus 16 capable of being lowered onto a fixed station, such as a well head base structure 18 placed at the bottom, and the other by a flexible duct. The connector 10 is pulled from the duct towards a centring receptacle 30 carried by the fixed station with the aid of a pulling cable actuated from the surface and guided by a tool lowered onto the station. The tool is withdrawn. The apparatus is lowered onto the station until it locks in a position determined relative to the receptacle, and the connector 14 carried by the apparatus 16 is given a movement of small amplitude f5 in a direction causing the joining. <IMAGE>
