PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic disk which obviates attraction to a head even if no lubricating agent is coated thereon by forming a protective film consisting of an inorg. compd. on the surface of said disk then increasing the surface roughness of the protective film by using an etching soln. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer consisting of Co-Ni, etc. is provided on a substrate consisting of Al, etc. and the protective film is formed on the magnetic layer by using the inorg. compd. such as Si(OH)4; thereafter, the substrate is immersed for about 10sec in an aq. 0.1% hydrofluoric acid soln., in the case of using the etching soln. Si(OH)4 and is then washed and dried, by which the magnetic disk having increased surface roughness is obtd. The problems that the magnetic disk sticks tightly to the disk when rested for a long period in the state of maintaining contact with the disk and that failure in restarting and the damage on the disk surface in the stage of starting arise consequently are thus solved without the need for coating the lubricating agent on the disk.
