The invention relates to an apparatus for making a decorative wrapping with tail-like frayed closing ends on confectionary articles by means of a confectionary wrapping machine, consisting of a wrapping wheel and of a crossmember, projecting at right angles from the machine housing, for mounting the closing members, as well as of a drive shaft, projecting from the housing, for connecting the drive of the closing members. The purpose of the invention is to widen the range of use of wrapping machines. The object of the invention is to obtain a closing fold without twisting the free frayed ends of the wrapping envelope. This is achieved, according to the invention, by means of two annular folding diaphragms of adjustable cross-section which are located on both sides of the wrapping wheel and which, by means of a cam-controlled secondary drive coupled to the drive shaft, are mounted on the crossmember adjustably in cross-section via a lever mechanism and so as to move to and fro in opposite directions longitudinally in the crossmember. <IMAGE>
