The invention relates to a device for preventing incorrect coupling of the cables which are provided for connection of a lead-acid battery to the electrical system of a current load, with the aid of a contact plate (4) which can be mounted on a mounting projection (7) which is located on the battery cover (1), consists of metallic lead and, for its part, is electrically connected to a terminal bolt which is passed through an opening in the cover, and the cover having one or more protrusions (16), with a stop surface, in the region of the mounting projection (7), between which surface and the contact plate (4) a tongue (13) or the like which projects from said contact plate (4), forms a spacer in the event of incorrect coupling. The protrusion or protrusions (16) is or are designed integrally with the battery cover (1), in a manner known per se, and the mounting projection (7) has a recess (17), which is open to one side of the same, for removable mounting of the relevant cable in the same with the aid of a mounting element (8, 9) which is fitted in the recess. <IMAGE>
