A towing connection between a traction unit and a trailer of a lorry for goods traffic is described, in which connection the connecting part between the traction unit and the trailer can be automatically moved from a short-coupled position during straight-ahead travel to a spacing required when travelling around bends and manoeuvring, using toothed pinion drives which engage in a toothed bow of the vehicle or into a toothed, longitudinally displaceable part of the towing connection, and these pairs of toothed pinions can be controlled in accordance with the travel around a bend via couplings.
