Method for reinforcing a roof of a pre-existing building and converting a lost roof space, characterised in that it comprises: - the laying of transverse horizontal beams 5 resting at their ends on load-bearing walls; - the installation of oblique beams 7 for reinforcing the roof connected by their lower end to the said horizontal beams by means of horizontal articulations 6 which are perpendicular to the horizontal and oblique beams; - the installation, at the upper ends of the oblique beams, of horizontal push-members 9 each connected by an articulation 8 to the end of two oblique beams 7, each push-member having an adjustable length; - the separating of the two upper ends of the oblique beams until the roof is effectively reinforced, by means of removable jacks, the locking of the length of the push-members in the corresponding position and the removal of the jacks. <IMAGE>
