PURPOSE:To measure accurate transmission characteristics without destruction by irradiating a linear part which is drawn between two parts which are curved to the same curvature with light, and comparing the quantities of emitted light at both ends with each other. CONSTITUTION:A part of length l in the middle of an optical fiber is drawn linearly and both ends Q1 and Q2 are bent in the same shape, and this straight part is irradiated by a light source sideway and perpendicularly. Photodetectors 3 and 4 are connected to both ends A and B of this fiber 1 to measure the power of emitted light. The optical fiber 1 is increased in length, the length between points Q1 and A is set short until the loss between points Q1 and A is ignored and the length between points Q2 and B is set long. Then, the optical transmission loss of the fiber 1 is 10log(P1/P2), where P1 and P2 are light power valus detected at points A and B, so that a measurement is easily taken without error. |
