Radiant burner

The invention relates to a radiant burner, consisting of a reflector diverging downwards and a burner designed in particular in the form of a burner plate. In this case, an asymmetrical extent of the reflector walls downwards is the starting point, because in this manner the geometrical possibility is afforded of acting upon as large as possible a proportion of the surface with radiant heat. The invention is also aimed at improving the thermal prerequisites for said heat radiation and to this end envisages that the burner forms with the reflector walls a chamber which remains downwardly open and from which the combustion gases flowing off from the burner flow off along at least one of the longitudinal edges delimiting the lower chamber opening. Consequently, additional convective air flows can no longer be formed inside said chamber, as a result of which heating up of the ambient air can occur at the expense of the energy to be radiated. Rather, there is considerable heating up of the preferably thermally insulated reflector walls and a flowing off of relatively extensively cooled combustion gases. There is consequently available for the heat radiation downwards an increased temperature gradient, as a result of which the radiation capacity rises considerably. <IMAGE>
