PURPOSE:To enable a secure dicision of an input completion of one character by detecting the presence of a stroke start point in one character frame shifting from the other characer frame where the character is inputted and by recognizing the character input as being completed. CONSTITUTION:A CPU20 recognizes a corresponding character based on stroke data inputted from a tablet 25, controls the process up to an output and is controlled by a system program stored in a ROM21 beforehand. When an operator is brought a pen 2 into contact with an entry surface of the tablet, a stroke switch of the tip of the pen is turned on. Then a start point of the stroke is entered, and coordinate data is fetched. If the next start point of the stroke is in other frame, the previous character input is considered completed, and recognition processing is carried out, whereby the recognition character is outputted to a buffer. Without an input of a start point in a different frame one character input is completed if the character is left more than a prescribed period. When a stroke is started again in the same frame within the prescribed period, a timer is turned off and a coodinate input continues.
