The apparatus (10) has an upper and a lower row of mutually parallel rollers (14, 15), via which the material web (4) is guided alternately and of which the rollers (14) of the upper row are mounted rotatably, but at a fixed location, in the vicinity of the wall of the tank (1) and are driven. The rollers (15) of the lower row have a specific gravity which is slightly above the specific gravity of the liquid (2) and are guided so as to be vertically displaceable in a region limited at the bottom by stops (19).
