Method and device for measuring the osmolarity of very small liquid samples, in particular in the region of a few nanolitres, in which the temperature of the sample is varied and the temperature corresponding to the phase transition "solid/liquid" of the sample is measured, which temperature is a measure of the osmolarity, the sample being enclosed in a capillary with an oil seal, light being coupled into an opening of the capillary, the capillary being cooled or heated, and the variation in the passage of the light through the capillary during the phase transition being measured by means of a photoelement positioned at the other opening of the capillary.
