<p>PURPOSE:To oxidize and decompose photochemically an oxidizable sulphur compd. utilizing near ultraviolet rays also effectively and to deodorize efficiently and economically by irradiating a gaseous mixture consisting of an oxidizable sulphur compd. and O2 with ultraviolet rays in the presence of a specified photooxidation promoting catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Useful photooxidation promoting catalysts are halides, of elements of the Group I a, IIa, and IIb of Periodic Table or of balogenic acid salts, sulphur acid salts of ammonia derivs., such as HI, LiI, LiBr, KBrO3, Na2SO4, MgBr2, CaI2, NH4Br, NH4I, etc. Malodorous gas contg. oxygen and an oxidizable sulphur compd. such as CH3SH, (CH3)2S, (CH3)2S2, CS2, H2S, etc. is irradiated with near ultraviolet rays having >=200nm wavelength which is the rays having high electric power efficiency in the presence of said photooxidation promoting catalyst to decompose the oxidizable sulphur compd. by oxidation.</p> |
