PURPOSE:To automate loading of a piece of work to a lathe without using man's hand by constructing an auto-loader so that the work placed on the auto- loader with the surface to be machined faced downward can be loaded to the lathe in a manner that the surface to be machined is directly machinable. CONSTITUTION:In a condition in which a pallet loaded with a piece of work 9 is stopped at a fixed position on a conveyor 4, the whole of a chuck device A is moved leftwards in the figure and is faced to another chuck B of a lathe. The devices A and B are confronted each other by the lateral movement of respective chucks 8a, 8b and 16a, 16b. In the next, by the operation of the device B the bottom face side 9a of the work 9 clamped by the chuck 8a is reclamped by the chuck 16a and a piece of work completed machining and clamped by the chuck 16b is reclamped by the chuck 8b to exchange each of the work. By this construction the loading of work to the lathe is completely automated.
