Method and apparatus for guiding a vehicle, the apparatus including means for generating a beam (15) which is detectable by an object to be guided, means (11, 12) for causing the beam to scan along a path (L1, L2) at least a part of which (L2) is curved. In a preferred embodiment the scanning means includes a rotatable reflector (12) powered by a motor (13) through to a shaft (14).
