PURPOSE:To obtain the titled catalyst having high activity, long life, and high strength by prepg. the catalyst from a molded body of a porous inorg. oxide supporting catalyst metal components for hydrocracking so as to have a specified central value of the pore size and a specified size of the macropore. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst is prepd. from a molded body of a porous inorg. oxide (e.g. alumina, silica, titania, boria, phosphia) supporting at least one kind of metal component of hydrocracking catalyst selected from the Groups VIB and VIIIof the Periodic Table (e.g. Mo, W, Co, Ni) so as to have a central value of the pore size being >=450Angstrom and contg. substantial amt. of macropore having >=1,000Angstrom pore size. The catalyst has sufficient activity, life, and strength when it is used for hydrocracking of heavy hydrocarbon oil without impairing the stability of the produced oil.
