PURPOSE:To obtain always a normal picture element signal by arranging a slit on the way of an optical path of an optical system to focus a reflected light from an object to stop the reflected light from the object, thereby preventing the leakage of light to a shift register of a CCD. CONSTITUTION:An original 6 of the object to be read is carried on a running board 9 by rollers 7, 8. The light from a light source 10 is irradiated on the original 6 in this case. The reflected light from the original 6 is reflected by mirrors 11, 12 and led to a lens 13 and collected on an image sensor IS. The image sensor IS converts an image of the original 6 into a picture element signal. A slit board 15 is provided near the part of the original 6 from which the reflected light is irradiated. As a result, the reflected light from the original 6 is stopped by the slit board 15 and the width of the optical flux collected on the image sensor IS is narrowered more than the chip width of a CCD of the image sensor IS.
