[Class 44.] The slider of a sliding- clasp fastener has means for automatically locking the slider 19 against accidental release movement which, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, comprises spring members 23, 24 anchored at their ends 25 in the slider, their free ends extending through apertures in the slider into engagement with the fastener-members 18. Members 23, 24 also serve to secure the operating tab 29 to the slider as shown. When the tab is moved to the left to fasten the stringers, the ends 27 ride over members 18, but engage them to prevent accidental reverse movement. When the tab is moved to the right to release the fasteners, it first engages the portions 26 of members 23, 24 and raises the ends 27 clear of members 18. The ends 27 are of different lengths to correspond with the staggering of members 18. Modifications are described in which members 23, 24 are replaced by a leaf-spring member or by a pivoted member biased to engaging position by spring means. |
