[Class 83 (iii)] A tool-holding chuck has a body provided at one end with gripping means and having an axial bore and radial slots, a cylindrical stop being located in the bore and being connected by a transverse member, lying in the radial slots, with an outer member rotatable on the body to adjust the stop axially in order to engage the end of the tool The chuck comprises jaws 19 abutting axially against a loose bush 20 in the body 10 and moved radially by a bevelled screw cap 18, springs between the jaws tending to move them apart. The tool 21 abuts axially on a pin 16 secured by a reduced end 16b and a screw 17 in a cross member 12 which is slidable axially along slots 11 in the body 10 has screwed ends engaging an internally screwed sleeve 13 rotatable on the body. Axial adjustment of the pin 16 is effected by rotation of the sleeve 13 which is locked against a shoulder 14 of the body by a nut 15. The lower end of the pin 16 is reduced at 16a to enter the bush 20 or the jaws, when short tools are used, and the pin may be replaced by others of different length. The cap 18 is retained by spring ring 23. The pin 16 forms an adjustable depth stop for the tool and enables broken drills &c. to be used in the chuck. |
