An analytical element for the analysis of a whole blood sample; said element comprising a blood cellfiltering layer, a spreading layer capable of metering a liquid sample, a detecting layer containing at least one reagent layer and a water-impermeable, light-transmissive support; each layer laminated on one another in such a manner that the detecting layer is laminated on the support, the spreading layer is laminated on the detecting layer and the blood cell-filtering layer is laminated on the spreading layer. Another analytical element comprising a blood cell-filtering layer, a spreading layer capable of metering a liquid sample containing an analytical reagent and a water-impermeable, light-transmissive support is also disclosed.
