NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (X is lower alkyl, halogen, nitro or CF3; R<1> and R<2> are H or lower alkyl). EXAMPLE:N-( 2, 2-dimethyl-2, 3-dihydro-7-benzofuranyl )-O-alpha, alpha, alpha-trifluoromethylbenzamide. USE:An agricultural and horticultural fungicide having excellent fungicidal activity, and exhibiting extremely high controlling effect against sheath blight of rice plant and various rust of wheat and barley. It has low toxicity. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting the o- substituted benzoic acid of formula II or its reactive derivative with the aniline derivative of formula III in the presence or absence of a solvent such as benzene, at a temperature between -50 deg.C and the boiling point of the solvent. A reaction assistant such as ethoxyacetylene, etc. may be used to proceed the reaction smoothly.
