BLOW-OFF MONITORING DEVICE FOR INTAKE OR EXHAUST VALVES IN INTERNAL-COMBUSTION ENGINE

PURPOSE:To monitor the blow-off phenomenon of an intake or exhaust valve, by detecting a light from the flame of blow-off gas through the intake or exhaust valve. CONSTITUTION:A heat-resistant optical fiber 32 is inserted into an intake or exhaust port 33 to detect the flame of blow-off gas 25 flowing into the port 33. The detected light is converted into an electrical signal whose level corresponds to the quantity of the light by means of a light power meter 34, and is then delivered to a control device 36. In order to prevent the flame of combustion gas upon normal exhaust timing from being erroneously detected as that due to the blow-off phenomenon, a crank angle sensor 38 issues a timing instruction for detection. A display device indicates thereon the light quantity and as well an alarm 52 issues a warning for occurrence of blow-off when the light quantity exceeds a predetermined level.
