A broadband digital transmission system which permits a high data transmission speed over the telephone with a low bit speed. A data stream with a high bit speed from a data source 2 is divided by a distributor 4 into six separate data streams, so that there are six data streams with a low bit speed. A call unit 6 sets up six communication channels to a receiver unit 20 and the six data streams are taken across the six channels in parallel. A reassembler circuit 34 receives the six data streams with low bit speed and reconstructs the original data stream with high bit speed. <IMAGE>
