<p>PURPOSE:To obtain excellent color tone reproducibility without depending upon an observation direction or incident direction of external light by providing a polarizing plate in contact with an upper substrate, providing at least one substrate with a color filter, and using GH liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal layer 10 is sandwiched between the substrate S provided with a thin-film semiconductor driving circuit 5 and the opposite substrate 6 provided with an electrode 7, the polarizing plate 11 is provided in contact with the upper substrate 6; and the color filter 8 is provided to at least one of the substrates, e.g. upper substrate 6, and GH liquid crystal is used as liquid crystal. In this case, the substrate S may be provided with a half-mirror layer as its upper or lower layer, or uses a flexible substrate having a reflecting layer or metallic substrate covered with a transparent insulating layer. Thus, the thin-film semiconductor driving circuit 5 is united with the display substrate S and the GH liquid crystal 10 and color filter are used, a full-color display which has good color tone reproducibility without depending upon an observation direction or external light incidence direction is obtained. The GH liquid crystal and color filter are used and the degree of freedom of the position of the reflecting layer is large, so both reflection and transmission type color displays, etc., using the half-mirror are obtained.</p> |
