PURPOSE:A hypoglycemic agent containing a polysaccharide having blood sugar reducing action of a plant belonging to the family Liliaceae as an active constituent. CONSTITUTION:A hypoglycemic agent obtained by incorporating a water-soluble component [assuming light yellowish red color with a mixed solution of 2% aqueous solution of phenol with concentrated sulfuric acid and positive to the silver mirror reaction and Fehling's solution (indicating that the component is a polysaccharide); having >=24Angstrom size in aqueous solution; hypoglycemic] of aloe belonging to the family Liliaceae, e.g. Aloe arborescens Mill., Aloe ferox. Mill. or Aloe barberae Dyer, as an active constituent. The dose thereof is 10-300mg/ day, preferably 30-100mg/day administered in divided 2-3 portions a day. Examples of the dosage form are powder, tablet including sublingual tablet, emulsion, capsule, etc. The agent can be used as a health food in an amount not to develop remedial effect.
