PURPOSE:To replete function instructions and to decrease the number of steps by providing a register and a means which shifts and outputs a plural-bit logical operation result which is set in the register. CONSTITUTION:The programmable controller compares a reference value with a comparison value with its function instruction to set one of three logical operation results, i.e. reference value > comparison value, reference value = comparison value, and reference value < comparison value in plural-bit registers R1-R3. The register R1 holds ''1'' when reference value > cmparison value and ''0'' in other cases, and a machine tool carries on work when said ''1'' is held. Further, when the register R2 holds ''1'' for the result of reference value = comparison value, the machine tool carries on the work and a lamp indicates that the work attains to a corrected value. Further, when the register R3 holds ''1'', the work is interrupted. This function instruction is executed by a program consisting of custom macroinstructions.
