PURPOSE:To prevent mixing of colors at the time of low gradation and to improve reproducibility of colors by applying current to a resistance layer formed in filmlike shape by a linear head and transferring ink under the film layer to a sheet of paper by generated heat. CONSTITUTION:Data corresponding to the number of gradation is generated from data generators 1-5 of a printer. One out of 5 sets of data is selected by a selector 6, transferred to a shift register and a data latch 10 and latched. An output of this latch 10 is supplied to a driver and a head 11 and printing is made. To switch data of the 5n+1-5n+5th dots from generators 1-5 by a selector 6, a signal is given from a selector switching counter 9 to a decoder 7, and offset is given from a decoder switching switch 8 to counter signal. Current is applied to the resistance layer formed in filmlike shape by the linear head, and ink under the film layer is transferred to a sheet of paper by heat generated at the time. Thus, mixing of colors at the time of low gradation is prevented.
