PURPOSE:To widen an element pattern, to decrease an active input VSWR during beam scanning, and to improve pattern and gain characteristics by printing passive elements on dielectric substrates of respective antenna elements. CONSTITUTION:When passive elements 23-27 are added, respective dipoles 6a and 6b-10a and 10b are coupled with each other to induce currents at the elements 23-27, radiating radio waves. The element radiation field of the antenna is therefore expressed by the sum of the radiation field of the dipole array and the element radiation field of the passive element array and the shape of the element pattern is controlled with parameters of the distances between the dipoles 6a and 6b-10a and 10b and a metallic reflecting plate 16, the size of the elements 23-27, their distances from the reflecting plates, etc. Consequently, the sum of electric field vectors of the radio wave of a path returning to the antenna through the reflection path of the antenna itself and the passive elements of the antenna is decreased to make the active input VSWR small. |
