K2SO4 is prepd. by (a) reacting KCl and H2SO4 in a recycled aq. soln. in the stoichiometric ratio for K2SO4 prodn.; (b) evaporating practically all the HCl produced in step (a); (c) cooling the soln. to crystallise a K2SO4 salt; (d) sepg. the salt to form a first mother liquor which is recycled to step (a); (e) dissolving the salt in an aq. soln., followed by decompsn. to form K2SO4 and a sulphuric acid-rich second mother liquor; (f) evaporating at least part of the water from the second mother liquor; and (g) recycling the conc. second mother liquor to step (a).
