PURPOSE:To reduce color nonuniformity and flare by suppressing any ill influence of unnecessary reflection of incoming light by performing ground glass treatment on areas of the outer surface other than its scanning areas of a surface plate for an image pickup tube the inner surface of which is coated with a photoconductive film. CONSTITUTION:After a transparent conductive film 6 and a photoconductive film 8 are formed on the inner surface of a surface plate 1, a vacuum packing ring-like indium 7 is placed between the periphery of the films 6 and 8 and a bulb 10 to maintain vacuum airtightness, thereby making an image pickup tube. Ground glass treatment is performed on the area of the outer surface of the surface plate 1 other than the scanning area or a ground glass member 5 is affixed to the above area to prevent any excessive light from becoming incident upon the area other than that scanned by an electron beam. As a result, there is no possibility that a large amount of reflected light is discharged in special direction or concentrated on a special area by irregular reflection of light by the glass member 5, thereby making an image pickup tube with improved chromatic characteristics. |
