PURPOSE:To facilitate the grasp of the condition of machining, by displaying the general views of electrode paths on the upper and lower surfaces of a workpiece, and as well by displaying the present position of the electrode at the present time with the use of a mark or a line so that the position of the electrode on a tapered surface on machining may be visually idensified. CONSTITUTION:The method of displaying the present position of an electrode in a wire-cut electric discharge machining device is such that indication is made on a display unit for wire electrode paths WUP, WDP on the upper and lower surfaces of a workpiece WK with the use of predetermined data among programmed path data of the upper and lower surfaces of the workpiece WK, data of relatively positional relationship in the heightwise direction among the upper and lower surface of the workpiece WK, an upper guide UG and a lower guide DG, tapered angle data alpha1, alpha2, alpha3 of blocks b1, b2, b3 and vector deviations (u1, v1), (u2, v2), (u3, v3) between the upper and lower surfaces of the workpiece at the block ends. Further, the present position of the electrode upon electric discharge machining may be indicated on the display unit with the use of a mark or a line.
