A retaining device for, in particular, ceramic panels (6) comprises clamps (5) which are fastened on rails (2), which can be fastened on a structure (1), and are provided with lugs (4) which are formed from in each case one leg (3) of an angular profile part and are intended for engaging in cutouts (7) of the panels (6). Each clamp (5) has two lugs (4), which possess a common load-bearing member (8). The free edges of the lugs (4), arranged on the ends of the load-bearing members (8), designed as strips, are directed towards one another. On that side of the strip-shaped load-bearing member (8) directed away from these lugs (4) there are provided two angular profile parts, one leg (10) of which is in each case aligned with one leg (11) of the other angular profile part, with the result that each clamp (5) has an essentially [-]-shaped cross-section and in each case one panel (6) is retained between the lugs (4) of a clamp (5). <IMAGE>
