A device is proposed for emitting an electrical signal in the case of a door being open or closed, especially on refrigerators or freezers. In order in this case to be able to detect even small gaps between the door and the opening edge of the furniture without any mechanical coupling between the door and the furniture housing, a light source and a light receiver having a signalling device are provided on the furniture, between which there is no direct visual link. Located on the door is a reflector via which a light link runs from the light source to the light receiver either when the door is completely closed or when the door is open.
