PURPOSE:To easily and stably manufacture a magnetic head which is extremely high in the accuracy of gap length, by performing irradiation of a unidirectional ion beam as the final finishing work of the gap forming surfaces of a magnetic head core. CONSTITUTION:A unidirectional ion beam is irradiated as the final finishing work of the gap forming surfaces of a magnetic head core. An object to be worked is set on a stage 4 inside a vacuum chamber 1 and a vacuum is formed in the chamber 1, and then, the ion beam is generated by introducing an Ar gas into the chamber 1. The ion beam is irradiated upon the object to be worked while the stage 4 is rotated until a quality-changed layer formed by working is removed. After the irradiation is completed, and worked object is taken out from the chamber by breaking the vacuum. Therefore, a magnetic head which is extremely high in the accuracy of gap length can be manufactured stably and easily. |
