The application relates to a spare fuel can, which can be inserted into the wheel nave of a spare wheel of a motor vehicle and fixed by means of a centrally arranged tightening bolt. In order to make such a spare can usable even in spare wheels arranged upright, for example those held by a clamping belt, it is proposed according to the invention that on the base area of the spare can facing the wheel nave two claws serving for engagement in the central through-opening of the wheel nave but angled off in the area of their free end be arranged, one of which is fixed to the spare can and the other designed as a two-armed lever capable of swivelling about an axis, which lever on its arm not serving for engagement in the central through-opening can be acted upon by the tightening bolt interacting with a thread on the spare can to the effect of swivelling.
