1. Device for laying a cable (12) in a trench made in the sea bed, which device comprises means (3/4) for laying at a burying tension T1 the cable (12) at the bottom of the trench and means for handling said cable during the burying operation, which cable (12) initially rests by its own weight on the sea bed and is subjected to a laying tension T2, the handling tension of which cable should not exceed a maximal predetermined safety tension T3, characterized in that it comprises means (16/17) developing a constant force : a) to support the cable (12) in a point taken on the length and to raise it at a height which gives the value of a lifting tension T4, so that its value T4 is between the value of the laying tension T2 and the maximal safety tension T3, the said lifting tension causing a permanent lengthening of at least a part of the cable, and b) to lay on the sea bed said cable part having undergone this lengthening, the slackening of the cable (12) resulting from the action of lowering the cable to the sea bed returning the cable tension to the value of the burrying tension T1 which is less than the laying tension T2. |
